- Great American's culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in-office days are Tuesday-Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.
- This position will be located in our Baton Rouge, LA office.
- Oversees activities within the Southwest regional Claims department.
- Provides file guidance.
- Advises reporting staff on claim files and extends settlement authority as necessary after reviewing files.
- Reviews and determines coverage and / or liability.
- Secures / analyzes necessary information (i.e., reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, records or other documents) in the investigation of claims.
- Works toward the resolution of claims files, complaints and disputes and attends arbitrations, mediations, depositions or trials as necessary.
- May affect settlements / reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations to supervisor on cases exceeding personal authority.
- Ensures that department or functional area meets policies and procedures. May provide input to establishing policies and procedures. Aligns business unit with business objectives.
- Ensures that claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable statutes, regulations and other legal requirements, and that all applicable company procedures and policies are followed.
- Advises reporting staff on claim files and extends settlement authority as necessary after reviewing files.
- May establish reserves and make recommendations or reports for Corporate Claims or senior management.
- Provides tactical leadership and strategic direction to the regional claims operation.
- Responsible for performance, development and coaching of staff (i.e., hiring, firing, performance management, salary increases, etc.).
- Plans and ensures that the regional claims operation meets budget and performance targets.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
- 15 or more years of related experience, including 6 or more years of claims management experience.
- Advanced/specialized knowledge within the claims discipline. Holds expert level capability in the claims field.
