ING Group is ranked 8th in the 2009 Fortune Global 500 list, making it the only financial institution to be included in the top 10. This is the second year in a row ING is featured in the top 10, though dropping one spot compared with last year’s list. This marks the second year in a row that ING has been listed in the top spot in its industry group.

In 2005, Fortune’s Global 500 listed ING at number 17, below three other prominent financial services companies: AXA, Allianz and Citigroup. In 2006, ING earned the number 13th spot, passing those same three companies. Now ING stands alone in financial services in the top 10, several spots ahead of the closest competitor.
