Company Overview
Cooperative Mutual Insurance Company (CMIC) was formed in 1935 as an assessment company by cooperatives to provide a competitive market for property insurance for cooperatives in Nebraska. The original name of CMIC was Farmers Union Industries Mutual Insurance Company. Property insurance was underwritten by Farmers Union Industries Mutual Insurance Company and other lines of insurance were placed through a wholly-owned subsidiary, Farmers Union Industries Mutual Insurance Agency.
Farmers Union Industries Mutual Insurance Company was converted to a mutual company in 1949 in order to obtain a license in Kansas. In 1968, the name of the Company and Agency were changed to Industries Mutual Insurance Company and Industries Insurance Agency of Nebraska, Inc., respectively. In 1985, the name of the Company and Agency were change to Cooperative Mutual Insurance Company (CMIC) and Cooperative Insurance Agency of Nebraska, Inc.
In 1993, CMIC began writing casualty lines to go along with their property insurance programs. CMIC currently conducts business in Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
