Job Summary: 

Serves as Chief Financial Officer of the Georgia Underwriting Association. Directs, manages and monitors all aspects of the Finance and Accounting Department and its staff to ensure maximum efficiency and quality is attained. Oversees the cash management function and ensure investments are made and held in accordance with approved Association investment guidelines. Produces all Financial and Statistical Reports and represents the Association in financial audits/examinations performed by the Department of Insurance, Independent Auditor, and the Audit Committee. Prepares annual budgets, monitors expenses and submits performance reports to the Board of Directors. Prepares Federal, State and Municipal tax filings. Oversees all General Ledger and Treasury operations. Maintains relationships and strategic alliances with banking, investment manager representatives, and other business partners.

Provides modeling data and statistics to Reinsurance Brokers and Reinsurance Companies in an effort to help keep the Association’s reinsurance program adequate and up-to-date. Also oversees the reinsurance accounting cycle (receivable and payable).

Explores and recommends new ways to use technology to help the Association become more efficient, effective, and able to grow and adapt to change. Ensure that internal controls and safeguards are in place to prevent loss of Association’s assets and/or income. Adhere to Federal and State laws and regulations.

Designs and produces reports to comply with any special data requests from internal management, the Board of Directors, state regulators, and other outside agencies.

  • 1099’s to recipients – GACP & GUA
  • Bank Statement Reconciliation
  • Budget Performance Reports
  • Financial Statements in Accordance with Statutory Accounting Practices
  • Georgia Arson Control Account & Reports
  • Investment Reports, Treasurer’s Report
  • Liability Stats
  • Administer Preparation of Member Company Distributions, Assessments, Participation and Voting Lists
  • Personal Lines Coverage (DF & HO) Stats
  • Reports to PIPSO
  • Premium Call
  • Premium Tax Refunds to Members
  • Statutory Accounting Affidavit
  • Tax Returns – Federal and State Partnership Returns, Preparation and Filing of K-1’s for Member Companies
  • Vendor Payments
  • Annual Budgets and Budget Variances for Association
  • Oversee Insurance Contract Renewal Process and Ensure Adequate Coverage for Association
  • Oversee Hiring, Training, Counseling and Termination of Accounting Personnel
  • Establish standard of performance and appropriate measures focused on objectives of department and work of individual – complete Accounting Department Employee Performance Reviews and Salary Recommendations

    • Bachelor’s degree in areas of Finance, Accounting or Business Management. CPA or similar professional designation preferred.
    • Five to ten years of extensive accounting, management, insurance experience required with general knowledge of Property Claims, Underwriting and Insurance Accounting. Some knowledge of residual market operations preferred.
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common professional and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Knowledge in statutory and generally accepted accounting principles. Ability to provide appropriate response to inquiries or complaints from regulatory agencies or member companies.
    • Ability to write reports, business letters and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to, and respond to inquiries from, peer managers, suppliers, customers and regulatory agencies.
    • Ability to influence, persuade, guide and direct the performance of staff through verbal and written communication.
