Our Staff Counsel organization is growing, and we're looking for an experienced Regional Managing Attorney to join the team. This full‑time, exempt role is based in our Glendale, CA office and follows a hybrid work schedule. It's an opportunity to step into a visible leadership position guiding attorneys, shaping strategy, and influencing outcomes while contributing to a collaborative, high‑performing team.Position Overview:
The Regional Managing Attorney will provide oversight to attorneys and support staff in multiple offices to ensure proper workflow and coordination of legal work within a designated region. The Regional Managing Attorney is responsible for direct oversight and supervision of legal work performed by Trial, Senior Trial, Lead, and Senior Lead Attorneys. The Regional Managing Attorney may also maintain a direct case load as demands of region dictate. The Regional Managing Attorney will work with the Staff Counsel Leadership Team to implement and execute quality programs to ensure adherence to best legal practices and achievement of customer/client goals.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Uses Staff Attorneys and support staff in one or more offices to create a cost effective, efficient team to accomplish company goals and to protect the legal interests of insureds and clients.
- May specialize in several areas of law, while maintaining an appropriate case load
- Provides expert legal advice to clients and claim professionals as needed
- Is responsible for staffing, skill development and performance management of staff
- Understands and uses key metrics to accomplish business goals
- Assigns cases and matches work to best utilize skill sets, capacity and foster professional development
- Monitors quality of work product of Staff Attorneys and support Staff so as to resolve the case in the most cost-effective manner
- Interfaces with Claims Management to develop, accomplish and manage business goals, including quality, intake, and penetration ratio
- Active monitoring, evaluation, and strategizing regarding key performance indicators and meeting Claims goals
- Conveys company/Claims goals to Attorneys and Support Staff and utilizes methods of evaluating performance in relation to goals
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Licensed to practice law
- Must have insurance defense jury trial experience
- Must have leadership experience
- Must reside in California and be able to be physically present in law office
- Must be able to lead change and support and promote change
- Must be able to use metrics to assist in performance management and achieve business goals
- Must have a valid driver's license, an acceptable MVR and an ability to maintain confidentiality
Desired skills and experience:
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Litigation Management Software and use of email
- Understands Company, Claims and Internal and External customer goals and expectations
- Categorizes and prioritizes work
- Effectively uses technology
- Continuously looks for ways to improve
- Business/Industry: Knowledgeable in current and possible future policies, practices, trends and information affecting The Hanover Insurance Company's businesses
- Insurance: Knowledgeable in the basic principles of property and casualty insurance; preferred knowledge and/or experience in workers compensation, specialty, and/or PIP insurance
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Ability to use a personal computer and other standard office equipment
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to travel as necessary to offices in region and to attend periodical leadership team and other company meetings
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods

The target hiring range for this role may vary based on geographic location and other factors, including merit or performance, demonstrated proficiency, skills for the role, education, travel requirements, and experience. Additional compensation may include an annual bonus (which could take the form of a general bonus, sales incentive, or short-term incentive), long-term incentive or spot recognition awards. The posted range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
