Description
Position Summary
The Head of Projects is a high-impact, entrepreneurial leadership role at the heart of the organization's growth and transformation. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves position designed for a driven, versatile professional who thrives at the intersection of strategy, financial analysis, technology systems, and cross-functional execution. Reporting directly to the CEO and CFO, the Head of Projects will own and advance the MGA’s most critical initiatives — from long-range strategic planning and financial modeling to systems implementation and special projects that shape the future of the business.
This role is ideal for a builder: someone who can think at the executive level, dive deep into the details, and create lasting operational and financial impact. You will work closely with senior leadership, department heads, and external partners to move the organization forward with clarity, urgency, and analytical rigor.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Planning
Lead and contribute to the development of the company’s long-range strategic plan, synthesizing market intelligence, financial modeling, and competitive analysis to define priorities and growth pathways.
Act as a strategic partner to the CEO and CFO — preparing executive materials, board presentations, carrier partner reviews, and investor or lender communications.
Evaluate merger, acquisition, and partnership opportunities through financial due diligence, valuation modeling, and integration planning support.
Identify and size new business opportunities including product launches, geographic expansion, new carrier programs, and distribution channel development.
Drive scenario planning and stress-testing exercises to evaluate key business risks and strategic options, enabling confident decision-making at the executive level.
Financial Analysis & FP&A
Lead and manage the annual operating budget process, coordinating input from all departments and consolidating results into a comprehensive organizational financial plan.
Build and maintain driver-based financial models connecting operational metrics — policy count, premium per policy, loss ratios, commission rates — to P&L and cash flow outcomes.
Develop multi-year financial forecasts and rolling 12-month projections that reflect growth assumptions, expense trends, carrier program performance, and strategic investments.
Analyze MGA-specific financial metrics including gross written premium, net retained premium, ceding commissions, contingent commissions, loss ratios by program, and operating expense ratios.
Monitor and report on individual carrier program, product line, and distribution channel profitability; provide forward-looking recommendations to leadership.
Prepare monthly budget-versus-actual variance analyses, identifying key drivers and recommending corrective actions with clarity and speed.
Model the financial impact of potential product launches, appetite changes, rate actions, carrier partnership terms, and reinsurance structures.
Key Projects & Cross-Functional Execution
Own and drive the company’s highest-priority cross-functional projects from concept through completion — managing scope, timeline, resources, and stakeholder alignment.
Lead operational improvement initiatives that increase efficiency, reduce cost, and enhance the scalability of the business as the organization grows.
Conduct ad hoc financial analyses, market entry studies, cost-benefit analyses, and vendor evaluations as directed by the CEO and executive team.
Support new business development initiatives, acquisition evaluations, and geographic or product expansion decisions with rigorous analytical and project management support.
Serve as a trusted advisor to department heads, providing analytical support for staffing plans, technology investments, vendor contracts, and key operational decisions.
Coordinate bordereaux reconciliation reviews and evaluate the financial and operational implications of carrier program terms and profit-sharing arrangements.
Systems, Data & Process Innovation
Serve as the internal champion for financial systems and technology tools — evaluating, implementing, and optimizing FP&A platforms, reporting tools, and data infrastructure.
Lead the implementation and adoption of financial planning software (e.g., Adaptive Insights, Planful, Vena, Anaplan) and reporting platforms (Power BI, Tableau) to elevate analytical capabilities.
Collaborate with accounting, IT, and operations teams to ensure data integrity across financial and policy administration systems and improve the availability of management reporting data.
Identify and implement process automation opportunities across FP&A, reporting, and planning workflows to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy.
Evaluate and integrate data querying tools and analytics platforms (SQL, ERP systems, policy admin systems) to build scalable, self-serve reporting capabilities.
Document FP&A processes, model assumptions, system configurations, and reporting methodologies to ensure continuity, auditability, and institutional knowledge retention.
Management Reporting & Executive Dashboards
Design, maintain, and deliver monthly financial reporting packages for the CEO and executive leadership team, including P&L summaries, KPI dashboards, and departmental expense reports.
Automate recurring management reports to reduce manual preparation time while improving data accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
Develop business-line P&L views and operational scorecards that align day-to-day activities with financial and strategic objectives across the organization.
Translate financial results into compelling business narratives for non-financial stakeholders — highlighting performance drivers, risks, and opportunities with clarity and confidence.
Growth Path & Opportunity
This is a high-visibility, high-impact role with a direct line to the company’s executive leadership. The Head of Projects will be central to how the MGA grows, operates, and competes. As the organization scales, this role has a clear path toward a Chief of Staff, VP of Strategy & Finance, or COO-type position for the right candidate. High performers will have the opportunity to shape the trajectory of the business and build a team around them.
Working Conditions
This position is based at the MGA’s Fort Lauderdale, Florida office, with a hybrid schedule available following the initial onboarding period. The role requires regular in-office collaboration with the CEO, CFO, and leadership team — particularly during budget cycles, strategic planning sprints, and key project milestones. Occasional travel may be required for carrier meetings, industry conferences, or company events.
