Description
T he Hanover Insurance Group is seeking a dynamic National Practice Leader to drive growth and profit in our Life Sciences segment. Hanover has been in the Life Sciences insurance market for over 7 years, and this is a unique opportunity to lead an established team and shape the future of an expanding specialized business.This is a full time Hybrid or Remote, exempt role.
About the Role
The practice leader will be responsible for developing and executing the strategic vision for the Life Sciences segment within the organization. This role will lead a team of specialists focused on delivering innovative risk management and insurance solutions to clients in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, and related sectors. The leader will drive growth, profitability, and thought leadership in this highly specialized market. As the Life Sciences Leader, you will:
- Develop and execute a national business strategy to accelerate growth in Life Sciences.
- Oversee a dedicated team of specialist driving underwriting, marketing, pricing, and strategic broker relationships to deliver profitable results.
- Collaborate across other Hanover business units enhance the existing all lines of business offering.
- Lead and develop a high-performance team through focus on talent development, portfolio management, operational execution, and agency partnership.
What You'll Do
- Assure the profit and loss of this specialized capability while growing the book of business.
- Expand agency relationships and distribution strategy while strengthen our underwriting presence in the marketplace.
- Work directly with our dedicated risk management and claims functions to assure we are delivering valuable services to Life Sciences risks.
- Identify opportunities to broaden risk appetite and enhance product capabilities.
- Drive product development in partnership with the CUO, including new policy forms and endorsements.
- Provide strategic guidance on complex risks and support underwriters in closing deals.
- Lead talent acquisition, development, and succession planning for the Life Sciences team.
What We're Looking For
- 5-10 years of Life Sciences P&C underwriting experience
- Expertise in Life Sciences underwriting and product lines including Product Liability (Claims-Made), Professional Liability, and related coverages.
- Proven leadership experience with strong business development skills and distribution relationships.
- Ability to collaborate across key functional areas to support the life science capability and thrive in a dynamic environment.

The target hiring range for this role may vary based on geographic location and other factors, including merit or performance, demonstrated proficiency, skills for the role, education, travel requirements, and experience. Additional compensation may include an annual bonus (which could take the form of a general bonus, sales incentive, or short-term incentive), long-term incentive or spot recognition awards. The posted range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
