Description
The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) – Insurance Agency has a new opportunity for an Account Representative in our Indianapolis, IN office. This position integrates sales, account management, and service with a core focus on consultative customer/prospect reviews and handling the full professional liability policy renewal to drive strategic business (sales) growth and long-term customer loyalty. You will oversee the end-to-end policy lifecycle; while leveraging customer interactions to identify strategic coverage gaps to facilitate upselling, cross-selling, and new business sales. You will proactively manage broker relationships, coordinate with underwriters, and educate customers to deliver exceptional service and ensure optimal account marketing and protection.
Essential functions of the position include:
Sales & Business Development
- Convert referrals and inbound leads into new policies through consultative fact finding, presenting coverage proposals, and follow-up.
- Build and cultivate strategic relationships with customers, insurance companies, and industry contacts through targeted prospecting, networking, and referral generation.
- Track and report new business activity, pipeline progress, and sales results.
- Assist prospective customers with quotes, policy selection, and application completion.
Account Management & Renewals
- Execute comprehensive consultative reviews during the renewal process to deepen customer relationships, ensuring policyholders have optimal coverage by identifying and presenting relevant upsell and cross-sell opportunities.
- Responsible for proactively working expiration list of assigned policies to schedule consultative reviews and send renewal quotes 30+ days in advance.
- Maintain documentation of all customer interactions including: prospecting, new business, applications, quotes, issued policies, subjectivities, etc.
- Ensure monies are applied timely to each policy to complete the renewal/sales process.
Customer Service & Regulatory Compliance
- Serve as the primary contact for all service requests, billing issues, and policy changes to maintain the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
- Respond promptly to customer and broker inquiries; including service, billing, quotes, coverage questions, policy reviews/changes, commission splits, and premium payments.
- Work closely with administrative, underwriting, and finance teams to process payments, commissions, and policy documentation.
- Investigate and resolve accounting and billing issues.
- Ensure compliance with state-specific tax filings, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist customers with the initial claims process, providing guidance on next steps.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain a follow-up system to ensure timely proactive customer communications.
- Occasionally participate in sales, marketing, and customer relationship events.
- Ability to build and maintain positive work relationships with management, staff members, and external contacts.
- Ability to arrive to work on time and maintain a positive attendance record.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications include:
- College degree preferred, high school diploma required.
- Active Indiana P&C license, or the ability to obtain quickly.
- Active Indiana Surplus Lines license, or ability to obtain quickly.
- Experience in sales, account management, and customer service.
- Knowledge of professional liability insurance and surplus lines regulations preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook) and agency management (CRM) systems.
- Ability to travel occasionally and perform activities at trade & exhibit shows including assembly of display booth as needed or assigned.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and possess a valid driver’s license and an acceptable MVR.
